Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul: Mike Tyson takes on Jake Paul in an eight-round heavyweight bout on Friday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas (Netflix, 8 p.m. ET). The bout, sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, will be contested in two-minute rounds, with both fighters wearing 14-ounce gloves instead of the 10-ounce gloves typically used in heavyweight bouts.
Tyson, 58, and YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul, 27, were scheduled to fight on July 20, but the bout was postponed after Tyson required treatment for a stomach ulcer during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles in May.
Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) became the youngest heavyweight champion at age 20 in 1986 and became undisputed champion a year later, holding all three major belts combined. He defended his three belts six times until his 10th-round knockout loss to James “Buster” Douglas in February 1990.
Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) began his boxing career in 2020, fighting mostly former MMA fighters and winning six straight bouts. Paul’s only loss came against Tommy Fury in February 2023, but he has won three straight since then.
In the co-main event, undisputed junior welterweight champion and ESPN’s No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter Katie Taylor will face seven-division champion and No. 3-ranked Amanda Serrano in a rematch of a landmark bout at Madison Square Garden in April 2022.
Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs) defeated Serrano (47-2-1, 31 KOs) by split decision by scores of 96-93, 97-93 and 94-96. It was the first time that a women’s unified title fight was the focus of an event in front of a packed Garden. Considered the biggest fight in women’s boxing history, the bout lived up to expectations. According to ESPN, the action-packed bout was the women’s fight of 2022.
